Dorabase: Doraemon Super Baseball Gaiden

Dorabase: Doraemon Super Baseball Gaiden was launched in 2000 as a sports-focused spin-off of the globally recognized Doraemon franchise. Created by Mugiwara Shintaro, who served as an apprentice under the original creator Fujiko F. Fujio, the series was serialized in CoroCoro Comic to capitalize on the immense popularity of the futuristic robotic cat while shifting the narrative focus toward high-stakes, gadget-enhanced baseball matches.

The series is noted for its ability to integrate the whimsical technology of the 22nd century into the rigid rules of baseball, creating a unique hybrid of sports drama and comedic adventure. Mugiwara Shintaro designed the series to appeal to a younger demographic, balancing traditional shonen sports tropes with the nostalgic charm of the Doraemon universe. It was received as a successful expansion of the franchise, running for twenty-three volumes and helping to maintain the cultural relevance of the Doraemon brand among young readers in Japan.
