Histoire des maîtres généraux de l'Ordre des frères prêcheurs

The Histoire des maîtres généraux de l'Ordre des frères prêcheurs is a multi-volume scholarly work authored by Daniel Antonin Mortier, a Dominican friar, published in the early 20th century. Commissioned to document the lineage and administrative leadership of the Order of Preachers, the text serves as an extensive institutional history, tracing the succession of the Masters General from St. Dominic through the modern era. It reflects the rigorous historiographical traditions of the Dominican order, intended to provide a comprehensive reference for religious scholars and historians of the Catholic Church.

The design and production of these volumes align with the classic academic publishing standards of the era, emphasizing utility and archival permanence. Mortier approached the material with a focus on archival accuracy, utilizing ecclesiastical records and monastic chronicles to substantiate the administrative shifts within the Order. While primarily recognized for its encyclopedic contributions to religious history, the work is regarded by bibliophiles and institutional libraries as a foundational text for understanding the governance and evolution of the Dominican charism over several centuries.
