Where it came from
Jack Frost is a manhwa series created by the South Korean artist Ko Jinho, originally serialized beginning in 2008. It belongs to a wave of international manhwa releases that sought to blend gothic aesthetics with high-energy supernatural action. The story is set in a secluded boarding school for vampires and humans, focusing on a unique mythology that draws on both traditional folklore and modern supernatural tropes.
The series is noted for its distinctive, dark visual style, which emphasizes high-contrast character designs and intricate atmospheric details. Ko Jinho aimed to create a world that felt both claustrophobic and expansive, utilizing a gothic-horror influence that set it apart from mainstream shonen-style manga at the time. Upon its release, it gained a dedicated following for its complex protagonist and its willingness to pivot between violent action and psychological tension.
