Jenaische allgemeine Literatur-Zeitung. Jahrg. 1-[38. With] Intelligenzblatt. Jahrg. 1-[38. And] Ergänzungsblätter. Jahrg. 1-[29].

The Jenaische allgemeine Literatur-Zeitung was established in 1804 in Jena, Germany, as a successor to the influential Allgemeine Literatur-Zeitung. It emerged during a vibrant period of German intellectual history, serving as a critical platform for the burgeoning romantic and classical movements. Edited by Christian Gottfried Schütz and later directed by figures linked to the University of Jena, the publication functioned as a rigorous scholarly organ aimed at professionalizing literary and scientific criticism.

The design and editorial philosophy prioritized comprehensive, anonymous reviews, intended to uphold Enlightenment values while engaging with the rapidly evolving philosophical landscape of the early nineteenth century. The inclusion of the Intelligenzblatt provided practical notices and academic advertisements, while the Ergänzungsblätter offered deeper, supplemental academic discourse. The journal is widely regarded by historians for its documentation of the intellectual tensions and academic standards prevalent during the Napoleonic era and the subsequent restructuring of the German university system.
