Jenaische allgemeine Literatur-Zeitung. Jahrg. 1-[38. With] Intelligenzblatt. Jahrg. 1-[38. And] Ergänzungsblätter. Jahrg. 1-[29].

The Jenaische allgemeine Literatur-Zeitung was established in 1804 in Jena, Germany, emerging as a continuation of the influential Allgemeine Literatur-Zeitung that had previously relocated to Halle. Published during a period of intense intellectual ferment, the journal served as a critical mouthpiece for the German Enlightenment and the burgeoning Romantic movement. It was created to provide rigorous, scholarly reviews of contemporary literature, philosophy, and science, aiming to uphold the intellectual standards of the university town of Jena, which was then a primary center for German idealism.

The design and editorial philosophy of the publication were deeply influenced by the academic circle surrounding figures such as Friedrich Schiller and later by the Jena Romantics. The inclusion of the Intelligenzblatt provided a necessary forum for academic announcements, advertisements, and literary news, while the Ergänzungsblätter allowed for deeper, more expansive critical essays that could not be accommodated in the standard issues. The journal gained significant prestige for its demanding intellectual rigor, though it often found itself embroiled in the complex political and aesthetic debates of the Napoleonic era.
