John Constantine, Hellblazer Vol. 2: The Devil You Know (New Edition)

John Constantine, Hellblazer Vol. 2: The Devil You Know collects the second arc of the seminal Vertigo series, originally published in the late 1980s. Following the character's breakout success in Alan Moore’s Swamp Thing run, Jamie Delano was tasked with crafting a standalone narrative for the cynical, working-class occultist. This volume captures the grim, politically charged atmosphere of Thatcher-era Britain, grounding the supernatural elements in the harsh social realities of the time.

The visual identity of this series was defined by a rotating team of artists, including John Ridgway and Brett Ewins, who leaned into a gritty, unvarnished aesthetic that contrasted sharply with traditional superhero art of the period. Delano's writing aimed to subvert genre tropes by presenting Constantine as an anti-hero whose moral ambiguity often resulted in pyrrhic victories. The New Edition repackaging serves to maintain the accessibility of this foundational material for modern readers who appreciate the dark, character-driven roots of the Hellblazer mythos.
