Jungle Kurobe

Jungle Kurobe originated as a manga series created by Fujiko F. Fujio, the creative partnership between Hiroshi Fujimoto and Motoo Abuku, and was serialized in the early 1970s. The narrative follows the comedic and often chaotic interactions between a young boy and a small, mischievous mountain dweller known as Kurobe who has ventured into the city. Like much of the duo’s work during this era, the series explores the intersection of everyday suburban life and the fantastical or supernatural.

The design of the character Kurobe reflects the signature aesthetic of Fujiko F. Fujio, characterized by clean lines, expressive facial features, and a whimsical silhouette that became synonymous with the studio's portfolio. While the series did not reach the global ubiquity of later works like Doraemon, it remains a notable entry in the authors' bibliography, appreciated by scholars and collectors for its insight into the development of their comedic timing and character-driven storytelling styles.
