Kidou Senshi Gundam: Gyakushuu no Char—Beltorchika's Children

Beltorchika's Children originated as an early draft for the 1988 film Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack, penned by series creator Yoshiyuki Tomino. Because the film production committee preferred a different narrative direction, Tomino instead serialized this version as a novel in Newtype magazine. It serves as an alternative continuity where Beltorchika Irma, rather than Chan Agi, remains the romantic lead, and features unique mobile suit designs like the Hi-Nu Gundam and Nightingale.

The story was later adapted into a manga series illustrated by Takayuki Yanase and later Kouzoh Yohtani, which began serialization in 2014 in Gundam Ace. This adaptation was designed to bring the darker, more character-driven tone of the original novel to a new generation of fans. It is widely regarded by enthusiasts as a pivotal expansion of the Universal Century lore, offering a more nuanced exploration of the psychological conflict between Amuro Ray and Char Aznable than the theatrical version.
