Created by writer Eiji Otsuka and illustrator Housui Yamazaki, the series emerged from a fascination with the darker, macabre fringes of Japanese folklore and modern urban legends. The narrative follows a group of university students with specialized supernatural abilities who recover the bodies of the deceased to fulfill their final, unvoiced requests.
