Where it came from
Kusatta Kyoushi no Houteishiki, or The Rotten Teacher's Equation, emerged in the mid-1990s as a quintessential example of the Boys' Love (BL) manga explosion in Japan. Written and illustrated by Kazuma Kodaka, the series gained significant traction for its blend of high school drama and transgressive romance, quickly establishing itself as a foundational title within the genre's formative era.
Kodaka's design approach focused on dynamic character interactions and the sharp, polished aesthetic characteristic of the era's shonen-ai subculture. The series was received as a provocative and highly influential work, credited with helping to refine the narrative tropes and stylistic conventions that would come to define BL manga for the next two decades.
