Library of St. Francis de Sales: Letters to persons in religion

The Library of St. Francis de Sales series serves as a collection of the spiritual teachings and correspondence of the 17th-century Bishop of Geneva. Letters to Persons in Religion was compiled to preserve the saint's counsel to monks, nuns, and those living under religious vows, focusing on the practical application of devout living within a cloistered environment. These texts represent a cornerstone of Salesian spirituality, emphasizing gentleness, patience, and the pursuit of holiness in everyday duties.

The translation and editorial design of this particular volume reflect the mid-to-late 19th-century effort by the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales to make his writings accessible to an English-speaking audience. The series was meticulously edited to maintain the warm, conversational tone for which the author was known, aiming to bridge the gap between complex theological instruction and the personal needs of the reader. It was widely received by both religious communities and laypeople as a standard resource for spiritual formation.
