Where it came from
Mahou Shoujo Homura☆Tamura is a gag manga spin-off based on the acclaimed anime series Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Published in Manga Time Kirara Magica starting in 2012, the series was created by the collective known as Magica Quartet, with the illustrations and comedic narrative handled by the artist Afro. The work emerged during the height of the franchise's popularity, offering a lighthearted, absurdist subversion of the dark and psychologically heavy themes found in the original source material.
The series focuses on Homura Akemi navigating various alternate timelines, though here the tone shifts from dramatic tragedy to surreal, slapstick humor. Afro’s art style departs from the detailed aesthetic of the anime to embrace a softer, chibi-inspired look that emphasizes the eccentric personalities of the characters. While it occupies a non-canonical space in the franchise, it was well-received by fans as a playful exercise in meta-humor that explores the inherent instability of the series' multiverse concept.
