Where it came from
Mahou Shoujo Tart☆Magica: The Legend of Jeanne d'Arc is a spin-off manga series within the Puella Magi Madoka Magica franchise, first serialized in Manga Time Kirara Forward in 2013. The story was crafted by the creative collective known as Magica Quartet, with illustration duties handled by Masugitsune Keru, and it was conceived to expand the universe's historical scope by reimagining the life of Joan of Arc through the lens of the series' established magical girl mechanics.
The narrative follows the historical figure Jeanne d'Arc as she forms a contract to protect 15th-century France during the Hundred Years' War. The design aesthetic intentionally blends the gothic, abstract art style characteristic of the original Madoka Magica series with the grounded, period-accurate costuming of late medieval France. It was well-received by fans of the franchise for its darker tone and its successful integration of historical tragedy with the series' signature themes of sacrifice and despair.
