Make You Happy

Make You Happy is a volume that emerged from the independent manga scene, reflecting the evolving landscape of self-published graphic narratives during the early 21st century. It was created by James Kort as a personal exploration of character-driven storytelling, intended to capture a sense of optimism and quiet introspection. The work is characterized by a minimalist aesthetic that favors expressive linework over heavy ornamentation, a choice that situates it within the tradition of contemporary slice-of-life comics.

The reception of this volume was largely concentrated within niche circles of comic enthusiasts who appreciate independent artistry and unconventional visual styles. Kort’s design philosophy for this project centered on creating a direct, emotional connection with the reader, stripping away complex world-building in favor of relatable themes. While it did not reach mainstream commercial prominence, it remains a notable example of the author's attempt to bridge the gap between abstract illustration and narrative manga.
