Makiba no Karte: Sangyou Doubutsu Rinshou Juuishi Tasuku Mikai

Makiba no Karte: Sangyou Doubutsu Rinshou Juuishi Tasuku Mikai, illustrated by Ren Hamahara, is a manga series centered on the professional life of Tasuku Mikai, a veterinarian specializing in livestock. The series emerged from a growing interest in niche occupational manga, aiming to provide a realistic yet poignant look at the challenges faced by rural veterinarians who manage the health of farm animals. By focusing on the day-to-day realities of large animal medicine, the work bridges the gap between technical veterinary procedural drama and human-interest storytelling.

The design and narrative tone of the work prioritize an authentic depiction of the agricultural setting, with Hamahara’s art style emphasizing the visceral and often demanding nature of the protagonist’s work. The series was created to highlight the often-overlooked bond between farmers and veterinarians, as well as the ethical complexities inherent in livestock care. Since its release, it has been noted by readers for its educational value and its respectful, grounded portrayal of life in the Japanese countryside.
