Where it came from
Mobile Fighter G Gundam Side Story: The Next Generation was produced in the mid-1990s as a spin-off expansion of the Mobile Fighter G Gundam television series. Following the success of the original anime, which famously shifted the Gundam franchise toward a high-energy, super-robot tournament style, this manga was commissioned to explore secondary narratives and provide fans with additional character development within the G Gundam universe.
The volume was illustrated by Kitaro Ototoi, who worked to maintain the distinctive, stylized aesthetic defined by the original character designs. The manga sought to capture the same kinetic, martial-arts-inspired action that made the source material unique among its peers. While it remains a niche entry in the extensive Gundam literary catalog, it is recognized by enthusiasts for its contribution to the world-building of the 13th Gundam Fight timeline.
