Where it came from
Mobile Fighter G Gundam Side Story: Tower of Death is a spin-off manga based on the 1994 anime series Mobile Fighter G Gundam, which reimagined the Gundam franchise as a martial arts tournament set in a post-apocalyptic future. This side story was published during the height of the show's popularity to expand upon the lore of the tournament, focusing on the intense, high-stakes combat that defined the series' aesthetic.
The manga was authored by Mitsuru Kadoya, who aimed to translate the kinetic energy and stylized fighting moves of the anime into the static, panel-based format of manga. The design of the work reflects the broader visual language of G Gundam, emphasizing exaggerated character proportions and dynamic combat poses that mirror the hyper-kinetic nature of the onscreen mecha battles, and it was received as a supplementary deep-dive for fans of the televised series.
