Moriarty the Patriot, Vol. 3

Moriarty the Patriot, written by Ryosuke Takeuchi and illustrated by Hikaru Miyoshi, began serialization in Jump Square in 2016 as a bold reimagining of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes series. This volume continues the narrative shift by positioning the antagonist, William James Moriarty, as a principled anti-hero intent on dismantling the rigid British class structure of the late 19th century. The series is celebrated for its intricate plotting, gothic aesthetic, and the tension created by flipping the traditional moral perspective of the detective genre.

The English-language release is published by VIZ Media, which adapted the series to reach a broader international audience, maintaining the refined character designs that define Miyoshi’s artistic style. This specific volume serves as a critical bridge in the early story arcs, further developing the brotherhood between William, Albert, and Louis. Since its debut, the manga has been well-received by fans of mystery and historical fiction, leading to successful anime and stage play adaptations that expanded the reach of Takeuchi’s vision.
