Moriarty the Patriot, Vol. 2

Moriarty the Patriot, written by Ryosuke Takeuchi and illustrated by Hikaru Miyoshi, began serialization in Shueisha’s Jump Square magazine in 2016. This reimagining of the Sherlock Holmes universe shifts the perspective to James Moriarty, framing him not as a villain, but as a criminal consultant aiming to reform the rigid class structure of late 19th-century Britain. Volume 2 continues the narrative arc following the introduction of the Moriarty brothers, further establishing the series' critique of social inequality through a blend of mystery and historical fiction.

The character designs by Hikaru Miyoshi are noted for their stylized, elegant aesthetic, which contrasts the dark subject matter of systemic murder and class warfare with a sharp, modern manga sensibility. The series received positive attention for its subversion of classic Victorian literature, positioning itself as a psychological thriller. The VIZ Media English release, which includes this volume, has been instrumental in bringing the series to a global audience, maintaining the refined visual tone established in the original Japanese publication.
