Nami yo Kiitekure

Nami yo Kiitekure, or Wave, Listen to Me!, began serialization in Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon magazine in 2014. Created by Samura Hiroaki, best known for his seminal work Blade of the Immortal, the series represents a sharp tonal departure from his previous historical action narratives. Set in the city of Sapporo, the manga follows Minare Koda, a waitress who finds herself thrust into the world of late-night radio after a drunken rant is recorded and broadcast by a local station manager. The work serves as a grounded, dialogue-heavy examination of the broadcast industry, characterized by Samura's signature intricate character designs and expressive, often chaotic, line work.

The narrative design focuses on the kinetic energy of human speech and the absurdity of personal crisis. Samura aimed to capture the improvisational and often frantic nature of radio production, blending dark comedy with character-driven drama. The series was well-received for its unique protagonist and the technical authenticity of its radio-station setting, eventually earning an anime adaptation in 2020. By grounding the chaotic life of its lead within a professional, albeit eccentric, workplace, Samura provides a distinct perspective on the medium of Japanese broadcasting.
