Where it came from
Neon Genesis Evangelion: Comic Tribute was published in 2010 by Kadokawa Shoten to commemorate the enduring legacy of Hideaki Anno's seminal anime series. It was released during the height of the Rebuild of Evangelion film project, serving as an official anthology that brought together a diverse range of manga artists to offer their own unique, often comedic interpretations of the iconic characters and settings.
The volume is heavily defined by the contributions of Tanaka Keiichi, whose distinctively exaggerated, retro-inspired art style is a staple of the collection. Keiichi and the other contributing artists aimed to subvert the heavy, existential tone of the original series by injecting humor and parody, resulting in a work that was well-received by fans looking for a more lighthearted exploration of the Evangelion universe.
