Norowanaide! Noroizaki-san!

Norowanaide! Noroizaki-san! is a manga series created by the artist Izumi Rei, emerging within the landscape of Japanese comedic supernatural manga during the mid-2000s. The series centers on the titular character, a spirit who attempts to curse others but is consistently thwarted by her own bumbling nature and the mundane reality of modern life. It reflects a genre trend of subverting classic horror tropes by placing traditional Japanese supernatural entities into lighthearted, school-based, or slice-of-life scenarios.

Izumi Rei’s illustrative style is characterized by expressive character designs that lean into the cute, or 'kawaii', aesthetic typical of seinen and shonen-adjacent publications of the era. By focusing on situational comedy and the character development of the misunderstood, cursed protagonist, the series aimed to capture an audience appreciative of gentle humor and supernatural charm. While it remains a niche title, it is well-regarded among collectors of mid-2000s gag manga for its consistent tone and the clear, clean linework that defines Rei’s aesthetic.
