Where it came from
NOW was authored and illustrated by the South Korean manhwa artist Park Sung-Woo, beginning its serialized run in the late 1990s. As a prominent work within the wuxia-inspired fantasy genre, the series emerged during a pivotal era for manhwa, which was gaining international visibility as South Korean comics began to adopt stylistic elements from both traditional martial arts narratives and contemporary manga aesthetics.
Park Sung-Woo is noted for his dynamic, highly detailed linework and his ability to craft fluid, kinetic action sequences that define the martial arts genre. The series follows the journey of a young protagonist thrust into a world of complex political intrigue and supernatural combat. Upon its release, it was well-received for its artistic execution and established Park as a significant figure in the industry, ultimately influencing the aesthetic direction of subsequent manhwa titles.
