Where it came from
The Osomatsu-san Koushiki - Aishite Iru no yo Osomatsu-san anthology was released following the massive commercial and cultural resurgence of the Osomatsu-kun franchise, prompted by the 2015 anime adaptation. These official anthologies were commissioned by publishers to capitalize on the series' pivot from slapstick gag manga to a character-driven, surreal comedy that resonated deeply with a new demographic of adult fans. They serve as a collection of short-form vignettes created by various artists who offer their unique interpretations of the sextuplets' dysfunctional daily lives.
The volume features contributions from several artists, including Akimoto Yoshi, who leans into the series' penchant for balancing absurd, high-energy humor with moments of camaraderie among the brothers. The design of these anthologies typically emphasizes the iconic, colorful silhouettes of the Matsuno brothers, reflecting the brand's shift toward high-fashion collaborations and modern aesthetics. Upon release, these anthologies were well-received by the dedicated fandom, viewed as essential companion pieces that expanded on the canon character dynamics through a stylized, experimental lens.
