Puella Magi Tart Magica, Vol. 4: The Legend of Jeanne d'Arc

Puella Magi Tart Magica serves as a spin-off to the celebrated Puella Magi Madoka Magica franchise, first serialized in Japan starting in 2013. The series reimagines the historical life of Joan of Arc, known here as Tart, by integrating the dark fantasy and magical girl elements established by the original anime series. This fourth volume serves as the concluding installment of the narrative arc, drawing the story of Tart’s crusade and her unique contract with Kyubey to its final, poignant resolution.

The series was produced under the Magica Quartet banner, a collective pseudonym for the creators behind the original Madoka Magica universe, with illustration duties handled by Masugitsune Kawazura and Sinba Takashi. Their visual approach mirrors the stylistic complexity of the source material, balancing period-accurate costume designs inspired by fifteenth-century France with the distinct, surreal aesthetic that defines the franchise. The English-language release by Yen Press ensured the title reached a wider global audience, where it is generally appreciated for its ambitious attempt to graft historical mythos onto the established magical girl tropes of its parent series.
