Report of the Select Committee of the Legislative Council on the Petition of Bertram E. Bowker

This document, published in the mid-19th century by the Parliament of the Cape of Good Hope, serves as an official record regarding the petition of Bertram E. Bowker. It emerged during a period of colonial expansion and legislative oversight in Southern Africa, functioning as a formal inquiry into the grievances or requests presented by a prominent member of the influential Bowker family, who were notable 1820 Settlers and active figures in colonial governance.

The report was compiled by a select committee tasked with investigating the merits of the petition, reflecting the parliamentary procedures of the Cape Colony at the time. Its design is strictly utilitarian, adhering to the standardized formatting of government publications intended for legislative record-keeping rather than public dissemination. As a document of administrative history, it provides a window into the intersection of individual land claims, political representation, and colonial law during the era.
