Report of the Select Committee of the Legislative Council on Petition of Richard Taylor

This document, published in the mid-19th century by the Parliament of the Cape of Good Hope, serves as an official record of the proceedings surrounding a petition submitted by the Reverend Richard Taylor. These reports were produced to address specific grievances or administrative appeals brought before the Legislative Council, reflecting the bureaucratic and colonial legal framework of the Cape Colony during a period of significant political and social transition in Southern Africa.

The report is characteristic of 19th-century parliamentary printing, utilizing the formal, utilitarian typography common to official government publications of the British colonial era. It was designed primarily as a functional record for legislative reference and public disclosure, lacking the decorative flourishes of contemporary commercial printing. It is valued today by historians and researchers primarily for the primary source insights it provides into colonial administration, land disputes, and the legislative record-keeping practices of the Cape Parliament.
