Where it came from
Saint Seiya: Next Dimension - Meiou Shinwa was launched in 2006 by Masami Kurumada as a direct continuation and reimagining of his original 1980s Saint Seiya saga. Conceived as a sequel that functions simultaneously as a prequel, the narrative explores the Holy War between Athena and Hades in the 18th century, utilizing a time-travel premise to bridge the gap between historical events and the present-day timeline of the series.
Kurumada employed his signature cinematic approach to action, opting for a traditional hand-drawn aesthetic that honors the roots of the classic series while introducing new mythological figures and character arcs. The series is notable for its deliberate, non-traditional serialization schedule, which has allowed Kurumada to maintain complete creative control over the visual composition and long-form storytelling that defines the Saint Seiya universe.
