Scriptores Ordinis Praedicatorum recensiti notis historicis et criticis

The Scriptores Ordinis Praedicatorum recensiti notis historicis et criticis was a monumental bio-bibliographical project initiated in the late 17th century by the French Dominican scholar Jacques Quétif. Intended as a comprehensive record of the writers and intellectual output of the Order of Preachers, the work was conceived during a period of intense historical and theological cataloging within European monastic orders, aiming to preserve the scholarly legacy of the Dominican tradition against the backdrop of the Enlightenment's growing intellectual scrutiny.

Following Quétif's death, the project was completed and edited by Jacques Échard, who saw the work through to publication in Paris between 1719 and 1721. The design of the volumes reflects the rigorous scholarly standards of the Maurist tradition, characterized by exhaustive citations and critical apparatus intended for use by future researchers. Upon its release, it was lauded by the ecclesiastical and academic communities of the time as an essential reference tool, establishing a lasting standard for religious historiography.
