Where it came from
Slam Dunk, originally serialized by Takehiko Inoue in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1990 to 1996, stands as a seminal work in the sports manga genre. It follows Hanamichi Sakuragi, a delinquent who joins his high school basketball team to impress a girl, eventually finding a genuine passion for the sport. The narrative is renowned for its grounded approach to athletic growth and its influence on the popularity of basketball across East Asia.
The 'fan colored' versions of this series are unofficial, enthusiast-driven projects that apply digital colorization to Inoue's original black-and-white ink illustrations. While Inoue's artistic style is celebrated for its dynamic lines and realistic anatomical detail, these fan editions seek to emphasize the intensity of game sequences through color. Because these versions are not endorsed by the publisher or the artist, they exist within the sphere of fan preservation rather than official circulation, reflecting the enduring dedication of the series' global community.
