Where it came from
The Tales of Xillia 2 Comic Anthology was published in Japan by Ichijinsha as part of their extensive DNA Media Comics line, which specialized in bringing popular video game properties into the anthology format. Released in the wake of the 2012 PlayStation 3 title's popularity, this volume provided a platform for various artists to explore the complex narrative and character dynamics of the game, which famously revolved around the protagonist Ludger Kresnik and his moral quandaries.
The anthology features the work of Katsura Ichiho and several other contributing mangaka, each tasked with interpreting the game's somber tone and alternate-dimension plotlines through a variety of comedic and lighthearted short stories. These anthologies were conceived as supplementary collectibles for dedicated fans, intended to offer a reprieve from the game’s heavy narrative by presenting the cast in more casual, situational scenarios. The collection was well-received by the existing Japanese fanbase for its ability to humanize the series' serious protagonists through stylized, expressive character work.
