The American Aberdeen-angus Herd-book: Containing A Record Of Aberdeen-angus Cattle Approved And Admitted For Registry Under The By-laws Of The American Aberdeen-angus Breeders' Association;

The American Aberdeen-Angus Herd-Book was established to formalize the lineage and genetic standards of the Aberdeen-Angus breed within the United States. Following the initial importation of these cattle from Scotland in the late 19th century, the American Aberdeen-Angus Breeders' Association began publishing these registry volumes to provide a definitive, authenticated record for breeders. This effort was essential for maintaining the breed's reputation for quality, consistency, and specific phenotypic traits that defined the Angus standard.

These volumes serve as an essential historical archive for agricultural science and livestock management, documenting the pedigree of individual animals and the growth of the industry over time. The design and structure of the work reflect the rigorous administrative standards of 19th and early 20th-century professional associations, prioritizing clarity, accuracy, and systematic classification. While these records were primarily functional tools for cattlemen, they have become significant historical artifacts that illustrate the evolution of American farming practices and the expansion of the Angus breed into a cornerstone of the domestic beef industry.
