Where it came from
The Greenhouse emerged as an experimental entry within the late 20th-century independent manga scene, conceptualized by creator Vie Sallon as a meditative exploration of isolation and ecology. Sallon crafted the narrative during a period of transition in the medium, intentionally eschewing traditional action-heavy tropes in favor of a quiet, atmospheric visual language that emphasizes architectural detail and organic growth.
The design of the volume reflects a minimalist aesthetic, with Sallon employing deliberate line work to contrast the rigid geometry of the titular greenhouse against the wild, encroaching flora. Upon its release, the work was noted by critics for its restrained pacing and unconventional paneling, securing a modest but dedicated readership among collectors who prize the intersection of environmental themes and character-driven storytelling.
