The Poems of Samuel Coleridge: Including Poems and Versions of Poems Now Published for the First Time

Published in the early 20th century, this edition represents a scholarly effort to consolidate the lyrical and complex works of Samuel Taylor Coleridge. It emerged from a period of intense academic interest in Romantic poetry, aiming to provide a comprehensive look at both his celebrated masterpieces and previously obscure or unpublished fragments. By incorporating versions of poems appearing in print for the first time, the editors sought to offer a deeper, more nuanced understanding of Coleridge’s creative evolution and his habitual practice of revising his own verse.

The design of this volume reflects the classic aesthetic of early 1900s literary publishing, prioritizing clarity and archival integrity. It was intended for both the academic library and the serious reader’s collection, emphasizing the text itself over decorative excess. The editorial inclusion of rare versions was well-received by literary critics of the time, who recognized the collection as a significant contribution to the study of Romanticism and an essential companion for those wishing to trace the philosophical shifts in Coleridge's writing over his lifetime.
