The Poems of Samuel Taylor Coleridge

This edition of The Poems of Samuel Taylor Coleridge gathers the essential lyrical and narrative works of one of the foundational figures of English Romanticism. Coleridge, who lived from 1772 to 1834, remains celebrated for his mastery of the supernatural and his philosophical inquiry into the imagination, most notably in works like The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Kubla Khan. This specific volume serves as a modern collection designed to make his complex, often philosophical verse accessible to contemporary readers, preserving the rhythmic intensity and gothic atmosphere that characterized his original 19th-century publications.

The editorial design of this collection emphasizes readability while anchoring the reader in the intellectual context of the early 1800s. The curation of these poems aims to highlight the evolution of Coleridge’s style, from his youthful political idealism to his later preoccupation with theology and metaphysics. By stripping away extraneous academic apparatus in favor of the primary text, the volume allows the lyrical fluidity of his language to stand at the forefront, mirroring the intent of many mid-to-late 20th and 21st-century anthologies that seek to reintroduce Romantic-era poets to a general audience.
