The poems of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, ed. by D. and S. Coleridge

This collection of poems by Samuel Taylor Coleridge was edited by his daughter, Sara Coleridge, and his son, Derwent Coleridge. Published in the mid-19th century, this edition served as a significant effort to consolidate the poet’s scattered works into a coherent volume. The editorial work was part of a larger mid-Victorian project to canonize the Romantic poets, ensuring their literary legacy remained accessible to new generations of readers.

The editorial approach taken by the siblings was intended to provide a definitive and reverent presentation of their father’s output. By carefully selecting and arranging the poems, they aimed to bridge the gap between Coleridge’s complex philosophical reputation and his established stature as a foundational English poet. The edition was well received for its scholarship and familial devotion, helping to stabilize the textual history of works that had often been published in inconsistent formats during the poet’s lifetime.
