The Poems of Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Ed. by D. and S. Coleridge

This collection of Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s poetry was edited by his children, Derwent and Sara Coleridge, and published in the mid-19th century. Following the poet's death in 1834, his family sought to consolidate his fragmented literary output into a definitive edition. This editorial project was significant not only for its attempt to organize a chaotic body of work but also for Sara Coleridge’s scholarly contributions, as she provided extensive notes that offered critical insight into her father's philosophical and poetic intentions.

The editorial approach aimed to polish and categorize Coleridge’s verse, bridging the gap between his earlier Romantic compositions and his later, more introspective writings. By placing these works within a structured framework, Derwent and Sara helped secure their father's legacy within the Victorian canon. The edition was received as a respectful and necessary act of preservation, reflecting the deep intellectual engagement of the Coleridge family in maintaining the poet's standing among the era's literary masters.
