The Poetical Works of Thomas Hood, Volume 4

The Poetical Works of Thomas Hood, specifically the multi-volume sets released in the mid-19th century, were compiled following the poet's death in 1845 to preserve his legacy. These editions were often produced by publishers like Moxon to consolidate Hood's influential contributions to Victorian literature, ranging from his whimsical wordplay to his deeply felt social commentary, such as The Song of the Shirt.

The design of these volumes typically reflected the aesthetic standards of Victorian bookbinding, often utilizing cloth boards with gilt lettering intended for the home library. While individual illustrators varied depending on the specific edition, these sets were received as essential reading for the period, ensuring that Hood’s distinct blend of humor and humanitarian concern remained accessible to the reading public for decades.
