The Complete Poetical Works of Thomas Hood

Thomas Hood was a prominent 19th-century English poet and humorist, best remembered for his socially conscious works such as The Song of the Shirt and The Bridge of Sighs. These collections were compiled posthumously to preserve his diverse literary output, which transitioned from lighthearted, pun-filled verse to somber, poignant critiques of Victorian poverty and labor conditions. The compilation seeks to balance his reputation as a witty comic writer with the profound humanitarian sentiment that defined his later career.

The specific ISBN 9780344175480 relates to a modern print-on-demand reproduction of these historical texts. Such editions are typically produced from scanned archives of original 19th-century volumes, aiming to make classical literature accessible to modern scholars and readers. While these editions lack the decorative binding and artisanal typography of the original Victorian-era releases, they serve an important role in keeping Hood's extensive catalog of poetry in circulation for contemporary study.
