Una famiglia di patrioti emiliani: i *Giglioli di Brescello

Published in the early 20th century, this historical volume chronicles the lives and contributions of the Giglioli family of Brescello, Italy, during the period of the Risorgimento. Constance H. D. Giglioli, an Englishwoman who married into the family, authored the work to preserve the legacy of her husband's relatives, who were deeply involved in the patriotic struggles for Italian unification. The text serves as both a familial memoir and a piece of regional history, situating the Giglioli family within the broader political upheaval of the Emilia-Romagna region during the mid-19th century.

The book reflects a common scholarly trend of the era, where private family histories were meticulously documented to provide ground-level perspectives on national movements. Through the lens of the Giglioli household, the narrative illustrates the clandestine activities and personal sacrifices necessitated by the push for an independent Italian state. It is regarded by historians today as a valuable primary source for understanding the social fabric and political commitment of local bourgeois families who championed the ideals of the Italian unification movement.
