Werke: Nationalausgabe. Im Auftrag Des Goethe- und Schiller-Archivs, Des Schiller-Nationalmuseums und Der Deutschen Akademie

The Nationalausgabe, or National Edition, of Friedrich Schiller’s works stands as the definitive scholarly project dedicated to documenting the complete writings of one of Germany’s most significant dramatists and poets. Initiated in the mid-20th century under the joint sponsorship of the Goethe and Schiller Archive, the Schiller National Museum, and the German Academy, the project was designed to provide an exhaustive and critical foundation for literary research. It serves as an authoritative record that balances historical context with meticulous textual accuracy, consolidating fragments, correspondence, and varying editions into a cohesive, standardized format for academic study.

The design and editorial philosophy of the Nationalausgabe reflect the rigorous traditions of German philology, prioritizing clarity and comprehensive accessibility for scholars. By organizing Schiller's vast body of work—including his plays, philosophical treatises, and historical writings—the edition aims to preserve the intellectual evolution of the author across his career. It has been received by the academic community as the gold standard for Schillerian scholarship, esteemed for its enduring commitment to textual preservation and its role in anchoring Schiller's legacy within the broader landscape of European literature.
