Werke: Nationalausgabe. Im Auftrag Des Goethe- und Schiller-Archivs, Des Schiller-Nationalmuseums und Der Deutschen Akademie

The Nationalausgabe, or National Edition, of Friedrich Schiller's works represents the most comprehensive and authoritative scholarly compilation of the poet's writings. Commissioned in the mid-20th century under the joint stewardship of the Goethe and Schiller Archive in Weimar and the Schiller National Museum in Marbach, the project was designed to establish a definitive, critically edited corpus that integrates all known drafts, letters, and finalized texts.

The editorial rigor behind this set reflects a commitment to philological precision, aiming to provide scholars with an exhaustive apparatus for understanding Schiller’s evolution as a dramatist and philosopher. Because the publication spanned many decades and involved a rotating roster of preeminent literary historians, the volumes are highly regarded for their consistent academic standards and their role in preserving the intellectual heritage of German classicism.
