Werke: unter Mitwirkung des Goethe- und Schiller-Archives in Verbindung mit Hans Heinrich Borcherdt [et al.]

This collection, the 'Werke' of Otto Ludwig, was published in the mid-20th century as part of a significant scholarly effort to organize and preserve the literary legacy of the German novelist and dramatist. Created with the direct collaboration of the Goethe- und Schiller-Archiv in Weimar, the series aimed to provide a definitive, academically rigorous edition of Ludwig's prose, plays, and critical writings, reflecting his vital role in the transition from Biedermeier realism to more psychological narrative styles.

The editorial work was spearheaded by Hans Heinrich Borcherdt, a noted authority on German literature, who gathered a team of scholars to meticulously annotate and curate Ludwig's manuscripts. The series was designed to serve as the standard reference for researchers and enthusiasts alike, prioritizing textual accuracy and contextual depth. It was well-received by the academic community for its commitment to preserving the nuances of Ludwig's aesthetic theories and his complex character portrayals, effectively solidifying his place in the nineteenth-century canon.
