Werke: unter Mitwirkung des Goethe- und Schiller-Archives in Verbindung mit Hans Heinrich Borcherdt [et al.]

This collection, known as the 'Gedenkausgabe' of Otto Ludwig's works, was compiled and edited in the mid-20th century under the guidance of the Goethe- und Schiller-Archiv in Weimar. It emerged from a scholarly endeavor to synthesize and present the literary and critical output of the 19th-century German author and playwright. The initiative sought to provide a definitive, accessible reference for academics and students alike, ensuring that Ludwig's contributions to the German Realist movement remained integrated within the broader intellectual landscape of the Weimar archival tradition.

The editorial work was led by Hans Heinrich Borcherdt, a noted scholar of German literature, alongside a collaborative team of experts committed to rigorous historical and textual accuracy. The design and structure of these volumes reflect the conservative, institutional aesthetics prevalent in post-war German academic publishing. By documenting Ludwig’s dramas, novels, and extensive literary theory, the edition served to solidify his reputation as a bridge between the classical tradition of Weimar and the emerging psychological realism of his time, ultimately receiving praise for its thorough annotations and organizational clarity.
