Where it came from
Absalom (OP15-079) was released as a promotional card during the Adventure on Kami's Island event series for the One Piece Card Game. These cards were designed to bolster the game's organized play scene, serving as incentivized rewards for participants at local game stores and regional tournaments. The card reflects the distinct artistic aesthetic of the game, which leans heavily into the original manga source material, focusing on character-specific abilities that mirror the narrative traits of the character in the Skypiea arc.
The character design for Absalom aligns with the Eiichiro Oda aesthetic, emphasizing his role as a supernatural antagonist within the series. As a promotional offering, this card was intended to provide collectors and players with a high-rarity version of the character, often featuring unique gold-foil stamping or alternate holographic patterns that distinguish it from the standard core set releases. It was received as a sought-after piece for deck-builders looking to optimize their Thriller Bark-themed strategies, as well as a milestone for set completionists.
