Where it came from
The Birdcage card, designated OP05-040, was released as part of the Awakening of the New Era set for the One Piece Card Game in 2023. This stage card is inspired by the iconic Birdcage technique used by the antagonist Donquixote Doflamingo during the Dressrosa arc of the One Piece manga and anime series. Mechanically, the card reflects the oppressive and restrictive nature of Doflamingo's ability by penalizing opposing characters based on their cost.
The card's design features distinct artwork portraying the web of razor-sharp strings that define the technique. As a pivotal card for blue-aligned decks, it has been noted for its strategic impact on the game's meta. The artistic direction remains consistent with the high-contrast, dynamic style characteristic of the Awakening of the New Era collection, aiming to capture the tension and high stakes of Doflamingo's climactic battles.
