Where it came from
Chessmarimo, a character from the One Piece universe, was introduced in the Two Legends set (OP08-006) for the One Piece Card Game. The card depicts a member of the Chessmarimo duo, a quirky fusion of the chess-themed soldiers Chess and Marimo from the Wapol Pirates, originally appearing in the Drum Island arc. The design reflects the whimsical yet battle-ready aesthetic of the series' early antagonists, capturing the character’s unique visual composition.
The card was designed to integrate into the Yellow color archetype within the game, focusing on mechanics that leverage life-point manipulation or specific character-trait synergies found in the Two Legends expansion. As part of the ongoing effort by Bandai to translate the vast cast of Eiichiro Oda’s manga into a playable format, this card serves as a tribute to the long history of the source material while expanding the tactical possibilities for players who favor themed pirate crews.
