Provenance

Where it came from

The Edward Newgate character card, identified as OP13-042, was released as part of the 'Carrying On His Will' set for the One Piece Card Game. This set commemorates the legacy of the Whitebeard Pirates, focusing on the emotional and strategic impact Edward Newgate, known as Whitebeard, had on the series' narrative. The card is designed to reflect his stature as one of the Four Emperors, utilizing alternate art to distinguish it as a high-rarity collectible within the broader trading card ecosystem.

The alternate art version of this card features a stylized, cinematic illustration intended to evoke the gravity and command associated with Whitebeard during the Paramount War arc. While the standard art focuses on functional gameplay clarity, the alternate art variant prioritizes artistic expression, often employing premium foil treatments and dynamic compositions. Upon its release, these variants were received favorably by players and collectors who prioritize the aesthetic representation of key characters over standard gameplay functionality.
