Where it came from
Higuma (OP15-015) was released as part of the Adventure on Kami's Island event cycle for the One Piece Card Game. These cards were distributed to participants of official release events, serving as a promotional incentive to encourage local store engagement during the expansion's rollout. The design features the antagonist Higuma the Bear, a bandit early in the series who serves as a catalyst for Luffy's initial journey. The artwork captures his character design from the early chapters, utilizing the distinct, high-contrast aesthetic consistent with the broader One Piece trading card series.
The card was produced by Bandai to provide players with accessible tournament-legal options while commemorating the specific thematic arc of Kami's Island. As a promotional release, the card reflects the game's ongoing focus on cataloging every significant character from the source material, regardless of their role in the current meta. It was received primarily by collectors of promotional sets and fans of the series' early history, valued more for its scarcity as an event-specific item than for its competitive utility in higher-level play.
