Hyogoro

Hyogoro, featured here as a character card in the inaugural Romance Dawn set of the One Piece Card Game, draws directly from the Wano Country arc of Eiichiro Oda's long-running manga series. Released in 2022, this set was designed to introduce the game's core mechanics while celebrating iconic figures from the franchise's extensive history. The card portrays Hyogoro the Flower, a legendary yakuza boss who mentors the protagonist during his imprisonment, emphasizing his role as a pivotal link to the history of the Wano region.

The card design reflects the game's aesthetic approach of using official manga and anime art to ground the collectible experience in the source material. As a common rarity card, it served as a functional piece of deck-building strategy, specifically tied to the Green color deck archetype that prioritizes character manipulation and board control. Its reception among players was tied to its utility in competitive play, where its ability to manipulate the cost of other characters made it a staple for early adopters of the game.
